My Copenhagen Packing List

So when I started preparing for my semester abroad, one of the first things I tried to figure out was, what to pack! I asked all my friends who had done DIS before and looked at tons of past student bloggers posts and the DIS website. And I have to say I think it paid off because so far I feel like there isn’t really much that I left at home that I think I’d need here. So here it is my Copenhagen packing list.

Clothes

  • 7 pairs of jeans (this might sound like a lot but I pretty much exclusively wear jeans so this is perfect amount for me )
  • 1 pair of denim shorts
  • 3 Skirts (2 of which are fall/winter appropriate)
  • 3 Dresses (1 of which is winter appropriate)
  • Bomber Jacket
  • Jean Jacket
  • Green Cargo Jacket
  • Oversized blazer
  • Leather jacket
  • Raincoat
  • 15 sweaters (some thicker than other, thin sweaters are great for layering)
  • 11 Long sleeve shirts (In retrospect, I would have cut this down to maybe 8)
  • 6 short sleeve shirts (3 nice ones, 3 to sleep in)
  • 2 “going out tops” (Danish going out style is very unique so I ended up buying two more tops that fit in better once I got here)
  • 2 pairs of running shorts to sleep in
  • 2 pairs of leggings
  • 2 pairs of joggers
  • 3 sweatshirts (thin crewneck sweatshirts are also great for layering!)
  • 1 button down shirt
  • 1 winter coat

Shoes

  • Adidas
  • Blundstone chelsea boots (perfect for the rain!)
  • Flip flops (good for the Danish style shower)
  • Slip on sneakers
  • Flats
Everything I own is right there in three bags basically

Misc.

  • 1 Bathing suit
  • Beanie hat
  • Gloves
  • Medicine (cold medicine, cough drops, Advil, etc)
  • Makeup
  • Travel bottles and full size of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and toothpaste
  • Backpack
  • Crossbody bag
  • Water bottle
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Makeup wipes

Things I wish I brought:

  • My converse
  • a top coat,
  • slippers
  • a duffel
  • a small purse

Hope this gives you some guidance when it comes to packing for abroad! I managed to fit all of the above in my backpack, a carry on suitcase, and one checked bag. I also definitely recommend using space bags when packing (make sure to use the ones that don’t require a vacuum so you can repack at the end of the semester). Next week I’ll be traveling to Brussels and the EU with my core course and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
